The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a three-year extension of the tenure of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis that was set to end on March 31. The Union Cabinet, at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the extension of the body at a cost of Rs. 43.68 crore. The commission helps in coming up with programmes for the welfare of sanitation workers and also monitors the implementation of the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013.
