A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Ministry of Rural Development and National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Space for geo-tagging of the assets created under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in each Gram Panchayat. The MoU addresses specific components of geo-tagging of assets and creation of data base for online recording and monitoring. The information related to geotagged assets is available in public domain on Bhuvan Portal of NRSC.

As per the information shared by Ministry of Panchayati Raj, the States have been advised to take up the process of geotagging and uploading of photographs of the assets created out of Fourteenth Finance Commission (FFC) funds in the ActionSoft portal in order to promote transparency and accountability in utilization of FFC funds.

Under MGNREGS, every asset is mandatorily geotagged. As on 04.07.2019, 3.61 crore assets has been geo-tagged under MGNREGS. As per the information shared by Ministry of Panchayati Raj, 4,38,845 assets have been geo-tagged under FFC. The expenditure incurred for geo-tagging of assets are met under the administrative expenses of the Scheme.
