The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed the Family Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2022 which proposes to give retrospective statutory cover to the family courts already operating in Himachal Pradesh and Nagaland. While two family courts have been functioning in Nagaland since September 2008, three were set up in Himachal Pradesh in February 2019. However, they were not notified by the Central government, as required under the then existing law. The matter came up last year during the proceedings in the Himachal Pradesh High Court pertaining to a case.
