Abhijeet Sinha (AIR 19, 2017)

Abhijeet Sinha has secured 19th rank all over India in one of the toughest exams. He has achieved his dreams because of his hard work & focus. He always wanted to become an IAS officer & serve the country. He had done B. Tech. (Mechanical Engineering) from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur. He was always interested in engineering that is why after completing his school he started preparing for the entrance exam of IIT. He worked a lot & at last he got selected & pursued his engineering.

Prelims Strategy

The strategy he used to follow is slightly different from others. As candidates attempt those questions in prelims about which they are sure. But Abhijeet always attempted at least 95 questions in prelims even though he only knows 50 questions with the full certainty. In order to find the right option, he sued to follow some thumb rules. Some of the thumb rules are pre-defined & some of them are made by him for the better understanding. During his preparation, he was focused for the mains exam. He always believes that prelims can at most stop one being from being an IAS officer. The paper of prelims is very dynamic so there is a lot of scope of your logical thinking, you have to use logic while solving the paper.

Focus on Name: There is always a reason behind the name of any scheme or institution. You can use this rule to solve any questions.

Common Sense: There is no substitute for common sense. You have to utilize your common sense to solve many questions.

Extreme Options can be wrong: The statements having sweeping generalization and use words like every, al, only, etc. are more likely to be wrong.

Preparation Strategy

The only thing which can guide for the exam pattern is attempting the test series. You should attempt as many test series as you can. Solve a test paper daily & then write down anything new you’ve learned from the test.

You should also focus on below things:

Environmental bodies and vulnerability status of few main animals.

Countries world map especially regions like SE Asia – Java.

Hills and mountains maps of India.

Key reports and the institution that publishes them.

Articles, Directive Principles.

Spectrum History – Last few pages – Societies, Some newspapers.

Nobel prizes recent year’s winners.

You have to follow the strategy but this is not enough to achieve your dreams as you have to do a lot of hard work to clear the exam. Never stop doing hard work, hard work is the only thing which will help you to achieve success.

This was the journey & the strategy used by Abhijeet Sinha during his preparation. So be ready for your exams.

He has always learned from his failures. Failure is a part of your success. So, never gets disheartened by the failures. Work hard & identify your mistakes & improve them.
